Trust Your Vision - How I shoot Authentic Content:
At chasing portugal we have no script writers, no content designers and no ulterior motives. Our goal is to share our lifestyle, adventures, hardships and real moments with the world - maybe we can inspire others to do the same?
Here’s some of my top tips for creating authentic content! ⏭️
Tell your story:
Do a trip, an experience, an event - whatever it is you want to show and share it to the world as you experienced it. I don’t like writing scripts, as 10 times out of 10 something unexpected comes up and you end up scrambling to change.
Instead I set an idea of the message I wish to share and after that I let the experiences take narration.
Guidelines and professionalism exist of course but I try to keep it as spontaneous and unfiltered as possible.
Film everything:
The worst mistake I have made when shooting a project is not filming everything. There’s nothing like finishing a trip, arriving home and being like, “Shoot I should’ve filmed that.”
Take your camera everywhere and film everything - you never know what you might use and when.
Don’t stay on the Beaten path:
Stay away from tourist hubs, exploited locations and instead find something that maybe not everyone has seen, done or knows about.
We have enough influencers telling us how good the food is in Portofino (for example) - instead show something authentic and unique to your trip
Local Way Of Life:
APE maybe the most common car around Italy, they’re seen everywhere. Whether APE or Piaggio they deliver bread, make grueling trips into the mountains for supplies and carry surfers in style to the beach. Whenever you go somewhere try to include something local, iconic and part of the authentic experience the people of that place live everyday.
Tell your story as you lived it:
I want to make people feel how I felt, walking around with me, riding the train with me, surfing and learning about focaccia or marine biology. Take people along for the ride as you lived it!
Listen a Lot:
This one is important - the locals always have stories to share. If you listen you can learn many incredible things that can help you share their experiences with the world.
Don’t Fall In The Cage:
At the end of the day it’s your story - be proud of it, you can take feedback from others but don’t let anyone tell you your story isn’t good enough.
